Abstract
As one of the specific groups in the politics of Tang and Five Dynasties, the Qianziguan(前资官)have been covered in many classical books of that time or in the works of contemporary scholars, but there is still a lack of systematic thematic research.Through the relevant data, this paper found that the so-called Qianziguan were officials who have left their post after completing their examination and other reasons.Their composition were complex and they left their office due to the expiration of their term of office,Dingyou(丁忧),retirement,or taking care of their parents or illness. When they left their office, they were still treated with considerable courtesy by the administration including many privileges in terms of major ceremonies, selection of official positions and exemption from Taxation and Servitude. They were given courtesies, however, were more in political, with limited improvement in their economic situation.Because of their idleness and lack of pay, they had to accept miscellaneous appointments in low and cumber positions,or the job of the military governor and serve as the agent position & Muzhiguan.Of course, some of them also abandoned their career, indulged in the landscape, returned to the fields, became merchants, and some were poor, which reflects the richness and complexity of the Qianziguan groups.
