Abstract
Hangzhou and Yuezhou, the capitals of the Wu Yue Kingdom in the Five Dynasties, were named Xifu(the West Mansion)and Dongfu(the East Mansion)respectively in the later documents, and there was no dispute in the past dynasties.Based on the documents and archaeological data of the same period of Wu Yue Kingdom, the author sorts out about fifty kinds of materials related to the names of Hangzhou and Yuezhou during the period of the late Tang and Five Dynasties.Using these data, the author confirms the history of Wu Yue Kingdom's private establishment of two capitals. The official names of Hangzhou and Yuezhou at that time should be Qiantang Mansion in the West Capital and Qianyuan Mansion in the East Capital. The Qianyuan Mansion was later changed into Kuaiji Mansion. However, the central goverment has not recognized this behavior, the history of the founding of the capitals of Wu Yue Kingdom has been obscured in later historical data.
