Abstract
From"Shenlong Mutiny"to Emperor Xuanzong's enthronement,the Tang Dynasty experienced a history from advocating"Zhongxing"to prohibiting it,then to reclaiming it with the rise of Li's family and the decline of Wu's family.After the restoration of the reign of Emperor Zhongzong,the term of"Shenlong Zhongxing"remained controversial until the mid-Tang period.After the An-shi Rebellion,Emperor Suzong and his ministers generally regarded the recovery of the two capitals as a sign of"Zhongxing"and established a new standard of"Zhongxing"other than"restoration"and"revival".During the reign of Emperor Xianzong,the theory of"Zhongxing"characterized as the consolidation of centralized power and the rebuilding of dynastic order,and the"Yuanhe Zhongxing"became the starting point for all subsequent dynasties to"achieve peace".In the course of three centuries,the term of"Zhongxing"had revealed profound connotations in the interweaving of name and reality,discourse and merit,event theory and process theory.
