Abstract
Yao Chong's pragmatic approach to politics was trusted by Emperor Xuanzong and highly praised by later generations.Yao Chong prevailed over all dissenting views and insisted on the locust eradication, leaving a deep imprint in the famine history. However, there has been an undercurrent of criticism of Yao Chong. In addition to the criticism of his exclusion of dissidents, from the perspective of the political cultural of Zaiyi,Yao Chong's extermination of locust and his interpretation of the destruction of the Imperial ancestral temple caused criticism throughout the Tang and Song Dynasties.Su Zhe and others deemed that Yao Chong is a encomiast to Emperor Xuanzong and even denounced he as the culprit of the An-shi Rebellion. Most of criticisms were based on inner expression of different times.
