Abstract
Zhang Dasu was the son of the famous general Zhang Gongjin,who made great contributions to the founding of the Tang Dynasty.From the records of Old History of the Tang Dynasty,New History of the Tang Dynasty and his newly unearthed epitaph,we know that he was mainly an official historian in his lifetime.He compiled Leishu,wrote national historical books and edited Qijuzhu(起居注)in his career.He also compiled Leishu,wrote historical books of previous dynasty and the family history of Dunhuang Zhang outside his work.To some extent,the example of Zhang Dasu is a reflection of the cultural ethos in the early Tang Dynasty.
