Weighted Times Cited per Month(wTCm):A Paper Ranking Indicator for Prestigious Article Selection in Subject Across Years
[Purpose/Significance]Outstanding paper selection in subject is a common application of citation analysis. The traditional approach of treating each citation equally is inherently limited in terms of its effectiveness and discrimination. However, weighted citation indicators often show better practicality due to the reinforcement by the new variable introduced.[Method/Process]This paper proposed a journal impact factor(JIF)based scheme named weighted times cited per month(wTCm)for prestigious paper selection across years. This new indicator em-ployed converted JIF as citation weight, timing published interval monthly with an adjustment factor to eliminate consequences of yearly counting.[Result/Conclusion]Experiments show that, with prestige accumulation,it has better discrimination and interpretability in paper selection, and has more applicable and consistent than the ap-proach of yearly thresholds.
