Measurement of Disruptive Innovation in Academic Papers:Weighted Disruption Index
[Purpose/Significance]Since the traditional disruption index calculation does not consider the number of references in the focus paper, this study proposes the weighted disruption index(the weighted D index)to evaluate the innovation of the papers more reasonably and effectively.[Method/Process]This study adopted a method for adjusting the number of references in focus papers, the weighted disruption index. It took the papers that won the Nobel Prize in chemistry from 1950 to 2023 and their control groups as data sources. On the one hand,it compared the disruption index and weight D index from the rationality and effectiveness. On the other hand,in view of the fact that the reference of a focus paper was cited several times by its citing papers,it specifically analyzed the innovation and the influence of the focus paper, the correlation between the reference influence and the number of reference citations.[Results/Conclusion]The weighted D index is reasonable and can identify the innovation of a paper more effectively than the traditional disruption index. When the innovation degree and influence of the focus paper are higher, the citing papers are more likely to cite its references. When the reference influence of the focus paper is higher, the citing papers also tend to cite its references.
