Research on the Influence of Different Cognitive Abilities on User Information Search Behavior and Cognitive Paths
[Purpose/Significance]Investigating the differences in search behavior, cognitive path character-istics and cognitive transitions of users with different cognitive abilities is helpful to understand users'search and learning behavior in the search process, and improve the search system to better support users'information acqui-sition process.[Method/Process]With the controlled user experiment, this paper divided the participants into two groups according to their cognitive ability, and asked them to complete three types of search tasks respectively. It collected the search and learning data through screen recording and out-of-speech thinking method, and analyzed it by non-parametric test method.[Result/Conclusion]This study finds that searchers with different cognitive abilities have significant differences in cognitive abilities.Different types of cognitive ability have different impacts on the search behavior and cognitive path of searchers. The user's search behavior is significantly affected by analogical reasoning, logical judgment, quantitative relations, common sense cognition, and verbal logic ability. The logical judgment, common sense cognition, and language logic ability play an important role in the cognitive pathway.
