Study on the sound propagation characteristics based on PIES observations near Dongsha Islands
The aim of this paper is to apply PIES observations to the monitoring of the marine hydroacoustic envi-ronment.The paper uses one PIES observation in the South China Sea to invert the temperature and salt profiles, and then calculates the acoustic field information. The inversion and calculation results are analysed and verified with the warm eddies and typhoon events during the observation period, and results show that PIES can more sensi-tive capture the variation characteristics of the upper water body and the surface acoustic channel in long-term con-tinuous observation, which can provide a reference for hydroacoustic communication, detection and submarine path planning, and has a good prospect of application in the hydroacoustic research and the protection of marine military environment.
