Beyond the Faith:Taiwan Budaixi from the Perspective of Grassroots
As a highly respected grassroots folk art activity,budaixi or the hand puppet theater serves not only as the highlight of religious celebrations but also as an important medium for grassroots communication.The study finds that budaixi,as a grassroots communication medium,fulfills multiple functions such as religion,entertainment,politics,and social interaction within the temple space.Temples have further contributed to grassroots governance in Taiwan region through emotional connection,socialization,resident autonomy,and public services.By exploring the social functions of budaixi and its grassroots communication spaces,the study deepens our understanding of cross-Straits folk culture and grassroots governance.
