The Process and Pathways for Taiwan Youth's Integration into Chinese-style Modernization
The integration of Taiwan youth into Chinese-style modernization is a critical component of the development of cross-Straits relations.Analyzing the role of youth groups in the Chinese-style modernization process provides a deeper understanding of the compatibility between cross-Straits integration and Chinese-style modernization. The role of Taiwan youth varies across different dimensions, including intergroup contact, developmental integration, spiritual integration, ecological construction, and peace practices.Semi-structured interviews with Taiwan youth reveal several challenges to their integration, including the narrowing of intergenerational spaces, negative perceptions of the mainland in local media, controversies over the use of Taiwan youth identity, violations of cross-Straits norms, technological limitations, and the psychological barriers stemming from the fear of"reunification by force".These challenges hinder the participation of Taiwan youth in Chinese-style modernization. To further advance the integration of Taiwan youth into Chinese-style modernization, efforts should focus on cognitive breakthroughs, material provision, spiritual coordination, discourse construction, and field development. This approach will not only overcome the challenges of intergroup space limitation but also enhance material support. It will increase the enthusiasm of Taiwan youth in participating in construction projects, foster a proactive integration atmosphere.
