Understanding the Logic of US Promotion of the "Internationalization" of Taiwan Question in a Changing Global Context
In recent years,influenced by multiple factors such as US-China strategic competition,the Russia-Ukraine conflict,and the COVID-19 pandemic,US policy on Taiwan region has undergone significant changes characterized by promoting the"internationalization"of the Taiwan question.Existing scholarship has explored US policy on Taiwan region from strategic,national,and Taiwan authorities perspectives.However,there is a lack of systematic research on the"internationalization"of the Taiwan question.In view of this,this paper proposes a research agenda on the"internationalization"of the Taiwan question,which includes concept discrimination,causal mechanisms,strategy types,risk assessment,and Chinese mainland response.Additionally,this paper examines the intensification of Sino-US strategic competition.It uses alliance strategy and agenda strategy as case studies to explore the specific application logic of the US strategies to promote the"internationalization"of the Taiwan questions.It evaluates the risks and demonstrates how to apply the research agenda to the analysis of realpolitik.The conclusion presents three key directions for extending the research agenda.
