An Analysis of the "Over-Interpretation of the Concept of Security" in the DPP Authorities' Mainland Policy
Since coming to power in 2016,the Democratic Progressive Party(DPP)authorities have consistently viewed cross-straits exchanges negatively. They have adopted the so-called"national security"as the guiding concept for formulating and implementing mainland policy. This has led to the implementation of confrontational policies towards the Chinese mainland based on exaggerated threats. The DPP authorities have fabricated false arguments to accuse the mainland of"social infiltration","cyber attacks",and"talent poaching".By depicting the mainland as an all-encompassing"security threat",they attempt to promote the"securitization"of social, cyber, and technological issues in cross-straits relations.Furthermore, the DPP authorities, under the guise of"security",have enacted policies through legislation, formulated management guidelines, strengthened administrative systems, and implemented law enforcement actions and other policy initiatives. These policies aim to build a"protective net"for social security to"resist Chinese mainland",create a"protection belt"for cybersecurity to"prevent Chinese mainland",and establish a"sensitive area"for science and technology security to"decouple from the mainland".Overall,the"over-interpretation of the concept of security"in the DPP authorities'mainland policy not only obstructs cross-straits interaction and cooperation but also profoundly shapes the political dynamics between the pan-blue and pan-green camps within Taiwan region, and to some extent, increases the operational costs of the mainland's efforts towards Taiwan region. Therefore, the mainland should accurately analyze the evolutionary trends in the logic of the DPP authorities'mainland policy and focus on enhancing the precision of policies aimed at promoting socio-economic integration across the Straits.
