The right to vote and be elected are political rights of Chinese citizens, including Taiwan compatriots.Participating in elections and serving as deputies to People's Congress is an important manifestation for Taiwan compatriots to participate in the country's political affairs. The system of People's Congresses has made arrangements for Taiwan compatriots to elect and serve as deputies to the People's Congresses at all levels, and has accumulated experience through long-term practice.Currently,Taiwan compatriots are still facing some urgent problems in electing and serving as deputies:the cross-Strait relations and Taiwan's reality affect the Taiwan compatriots'qualification confirmation;the institution for the election of Taiwan compatriots to People's Congress need to be continuously improved;and the representativeness of Taiwan compatriots needs to be optimized. As the cross-Strait people-to-people exchanges become increasingly frequent, the relevant system should be continuously improved, the pioneering and exemplary role of the Cross-Strait Integration and Development Demonstration Zones should be brought into play, the channels for the orderly participation in political affairs by Taiwan compatriots should be broadened, and the system of people's congresses should take a more proactive role in promoting the unification of the motherland.
