Reactive compatibilization of PLA/PBAT composites with hydantoin epoxy resin
In this paper,a reactive compatibilizer,HY-EP epoxy resin,is used to bind with the hydroxyl or carboxyl groups on PLA and PBAT during the melt blending process to form chemical bonds through an epoxy ring-opening reaction.The compatibility of the PLA/PBAT composites is improved by strong interfacial action.Differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),dynamic mechanical property analysis(DMTA),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and other tests show that the compatibility of the composite material is significantly improved.Mechanical tests show that the impact strength of the material can reach up to 10.47 kJ/m2,which is nearly five times higher than that of PLA,and the highest elongation at break reaches 201.1%with the tensile strength of 47.8 MPa.The results indicate compounding HY-EP with PBAT can efficiently toughen PLA.
