Effect of peroxide cure systems on adhesion between chloroprene rubber and aramid cords
The effects of the peroxide cure systems on the cure characteristics, physical and mechanical properties of CR,and the adhesion between chloroprene rubber(CR)and aramid cords were systematically studied. The results showed that peroxides could effectively crosslink CR,and significantly reduced the optimal vulcanization time of CR compared with the traditional ZnO system. The physical and mechanical properties of CR cured by peroxide cure systems were superior to CR cured by ZnO system, while the adhesive strength between CR cure by peroxide and aramid cords was similar to CR cured by ZnO system. The combination of peroxides with ZnO enhanced the adhesion between CR and aramid fibers, with a 20%increase in adhesion strength compared with CR cured by ZnO system alone. The dynamic adhesion between CR and aramid ropes were significantly improved by using di(tert-butyl peroxyisopropyl)benzene(BIPB)and co-agents.
