National identity is influenced by various factors including history, politics, and economy, while governance also plays a role in it.Existing research has not provided a definitive answer as to whether governance can promote national identity in Africa. This study explores the mechanisms for enhancing national identity theoretically, then employs an ordered logistic regression model to empirically investigate national identity, governance data from the African Governance Index, the World Bank, and UNCTAD,as well as the trade openness of African countries. The research findings indicate a positive correlation between governance and national identity. This discovery further enhances our understanding of the impact of governance and provides insights for strengthening national identity and modern nation-building in Africa.
