Impact of Community-based Elderly Care Services on the Physical Health of the Elderly
Physical health is critical for the elderly to enjoy a happy life.Based on data from CHARLS in 2018,the article uses logit regression models to explore the impact of community-based elderly care services on their physical health among those aged 60-100 years old,and then utilizes PSM to supplement the endogeneity problem of the baseline regression,fol-lowed by a heterogeneity analysis of the impact effects.Findings are as follows.Firstly, the services significantly improve the self-assessed health and instrumental self-care ability of the elderly.Secondly, the services are effective in the alle-viation and control of chronic diseases for the sample.Thirdly, the heterogeneity test suggests that the health improvement effect of the services is more significant for the elderly aged 60-75 years old, with a lower level of education, and in rural areas. This paper argues that universal home or community-based elderly care services should be continuously promoted to make up for regional and inter-group differences, while vigorously promoting the medical-care integrated elderly care services to enhance the overall health of the elderly.
