Development and Validation of Scale for Family-Based Factors Promoting Adolescent Sports Engagement
Drawing on ecological system theory, this study aims to create a scale suitable for assessing family-based factors promoting adolescent sports engagement in China and validate its reliability and validity.METHODS:Employing regional sampling, interviews were conducted with 20 teenagers aged 10 to 18 from the East,Central,South,Southwest, and Northwest China.Grounded theory was applied to three-level code the interview data, leading to the development of preliminary structural dimensions for family-based factors promoting adolescent sports engagement and the design of 30 initial items.Subsequently,a questionnaire test was administered to 1371 adolescents, and after filtering effective questionnaires, they were randomly divided into two groups for exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis.RESULTS:Exploratory factor analysis revealed that the scale comprised four dimensions-behavioral habits, parental sports support, family sports values, and resource investment-with a total of 13 items.Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the effectiveness of the model structure, with all fit indices meeting the acceptance standards(x2/df=2.490,GFI=0.962,CFI=0.981,IFI=0.981,AGFI=0.952,RMSEA=0.052).Additionally,the overall scale and each dimension's α coefficients ranged from 0.832 to 0.922,split-half reliability from 0.840 to 0.884,average variance extracted(AVE)from 0.624 to 0.721,composite reliability(CR)from 0.838 to 0.963,all reaching significance.CONCLUSION:The Scale for Family-Based Factors Promoting Adolescent Sports Engagement demonstrates high reliability and validity, offering an effective measurement tool for future quantitative research in this domain.
