Analysis of Medal Distribution Characteristics of the 4th Winter Youth Olympic Games
The 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games,held for the first time in Asia,stood as the largest youth ice and snow sports competition,featuring over 1,800 athletes from 78 countries and regions.To gauge the global prowess in youth ice and snow sports,this study utilizes literature review,comparative analysis,and statistical methods to delve into the medal distribution and quantities at the Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics.The research explores the distribution patterns of medals in various events,conducts a comprehensive and nuanced analysis of China's strengths and weaknesses in ice and snow sports,and encapsulates China's competitive standing in these domains.Findings reveal an overall uneven distribution of medals in the Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics,with European countries demonstrating superior competitiveness in ice and snow sports.The top 10 countries in the medal standings exhibit an uneven distribution of strength in these sports.Notably,China and South Korea dominate in ice events,while Italy leads in gold medals for snow events,closely followed by Germany,France,and Austria.Despite the Chinese delegation achieving its best performance in the Winter Youth Olympics with 18 medals,the distribution is uneven,showcasing a significant advantage in ice events and some shortcomings in snow events.
