Development Opportunities,Trajectories,and Potential Challenges in the Esports Industry from a Metaverse Perspective
The metaverse,with its immersive characteristics and rapid advancement in promoting cross-industry value,has emerged as a key focus for numerous scholars.The establishment of the metaverse proves instrumental in propelling the transformation and elevation of the esports industry,assisting electronic gaming in becoming more akin to traditional sports.This study employs a literature review approach to analyze the overarching context,developmental trajectories,and underlying potential crises associated with esports development within the metaverse framework.Findings reveal that metaverse technologies such as augmented reality,virtual reality,and virtual imagery hold promise for introducing novel developmental opportunities for esports.However,innovation also poses challenges,including the risk of uncontrollable creative spaces,ethical concerns,and the potential for excessive detachment from reality,leading to crises like diminished social skills and a shift in values from reality to the virtual realm.
