Digital technology presents novel perspectives and impetus for the advancement of physical education in higher education institutions.The digital transformation of extracurricular physical exercise in universities stands as a pivotal facet in the contemporary IT application to university sports.This study,conducted at Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology,utilizes methods such as literature review and on-site investigation.Findings reveal:1)The key elements of digital empowerment for extracurricular physical exercise in higher education institutions encompass the campus smart sports platform and big data operations.2)By formulating a model for analyzing the digital empowerment of extracurricular physical exercise in higher education institutions,operational pathways are deduced from the three dimensions of"environmental policy,""digital technology,"and"organizational innovation."The entire process spans three stages:the"technology standardization period,""technology rooting period,"and"technology maturity period."Suggestions include institutionalizing the standardized collection,processing,and sharing of big data;enhancing exercise effects through quantification and visualization technologies;establishing an open and networked data platform;and fortifying data security and privacy protection as optimization strategies to propel the development of digital empowerment for extracurricular physical exercise in the higher education institutions of China.
