The Interplay of Physical Exercise and Adolescent Mental Health Under the Pressure of Senior High School Entrance Examination
In recent years,the prevalence of mental health issues among Chinese adolescents has surged,paralleling the intensification of exam-centric education.This study surveyed 879 adolescents in Guangzhou using the Physical Activity Rating Scale(PARS-3)and the Symptom Checklist-90(SCL-90).Findings indicate:(1)48.47%of adolescents grapple with mental health challenges.(2)Some individuals sustain moderate exercise,gravitating towards activities of light to moderate intensity,typically lasting under 21 minutes.(3)Noteworthy,43.5%exercise 1-2 times weekly,while 7.19%lack regular exercise.(4)Amid middle school exam pressure,specific mental health indicators exhibit a negative correlation with physical exercise.(5)Adequate physical activity is poised to alleviate anxiety,hostility,obsession,fear,psychopathy,and somatization,but its impact on depression and paranoia is limited.This study reveals the intricate interaction between adolescent physical exercise and mental health,endorsing the prioritization and support of sports during academically demanding periods to enhance holistic well-being.
