The Value,Problems and Inspiration of the New Rule of"Extending Supplementary Time"in the English Premier League
Using methods such as literature review and data statistics,this study conducted a statistical analysis of the injury time and goals scored during the injury time period in 300 matches in the first 15 rounds of the 2022-2023 and 2023-24 English Premier League.The aim was to analyze and study the value and problems brought by the new regulations on extending supplementary time to modern football matches,in order to summarize experiences and lessons for China's professional football league to align with international mainstream leagues,so as to promote the healthy development of China's professional football league.The results show that the injury time and goal count in the first fifteen rounds of the 2023-24 Premier League have significantly increased compared to the same period in the 2022-2023 season.Extending the supplementary time has made up for the wasted time in the game,increased the effective game time,ensured the fairness of the game,stimulated the passion of players and spectators,and increased the suspense and viewing value of the game.However,excessive extra time significantly prolongs the game time,putting greater pressure and controversy on referees,increasing the physical exertion and injury risk of athletes,and affecting the team's tactical arrangements and preparation.
