Carbon Neutrality Governance in Major Sports Events:Realistic Demands,International Lessons, and Practical Reflections
In recent years, global climate change has posed challenges to sports, and the hosting of sports events has significant environmental impacts.Against the backdrop of"carbon neutrality,"the low-carbon operation of major sports events has become an imperative for sustainable development. This study focuses on the governance of carbon neutrality in major sports events, utilizing research methods such as literature review and logical analysis. It analyzes the real demands for carbon neutrality governance in major sports events in China, explores the experiences of international sports events in carbon neutrality governance, and proposes strategies for carbon neutrality governance in major sports events in China. The research findings reveal that the real demands for carbon neutrality governance in major sports events in China manifest in the need for improved low-carbon management policies, the establishment of a comprehensive low-carbon governance system, and the urgent requirement for low-carbon technologies to support event operations.Based on these findings, corresponding governance strategies are proposed, including the enhancement of policy systems to guide sustainable event hosting, the establishment of complete processes to facilitate zero-carbon emissions, the focus on ecological carbon sinks for carbon offsetting, and the innovation of digital technologies to increase emission reduction opportunities.
