Therapeutic Effect of Traditional Chinese Health-Preserving Exercises on Primary Dysmenorrhea in Women:A Meta-Analysis
OBJECTIVE:The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of traditional Chinese health-preserving exercises in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea in women.METHODS:This study primarily utilizes research methods such as literature review and Meta-analysis.Literature searches were conducted in foreign databases(Web of Science,Embase,Science Direct,PubMed)and Chinese databases(VIP,Wanfang,China National Knowledge Infrastructure)from inception to October 7,2023.The inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to screen the literature. The Cochrane Collaboration's tool for assessing risk of bias in randomized controlled trials was also used to evaluate the quality and risk of bias in the included studies, aiding in an accurate assessment of the reliability and bias risk of the research.RevMan 5.3 software was used to perform the Meta-analysis in order to comprehensively evaluate the results of the individual studies.RESULTS:A total of 8 studies involving 345 participants were ultimately included. The Meta-analysis results showed that compared to the control group, the traditional Chinese health-preserving exercises group exhibited significant differences in pain intensity(SMD=-1.21,95%CI[-1.86,-0.56],P<0.001)and the efficacy of primary dysmenorrhea treatment(OR=171.44,95%CI[36.61,802.90],P<0.001),while no significant difference was observed in dysmenorrhea symptom scores(SMD=-0.61,95%CI[-1.76,0.55],P=0.30).CONCLUSION:Traditional Chinese health-preserving exercises have a certain therapeutic effect on primary dysmenorrhea in women, significantly reducing pain intensity and improving the efficacy of primary dysmenorrhea treatment. However, their effect on improving dysmenorrhea symptom scores is not significant.RECOMMENDATION:When treating primary dysmenorrhea, clinicians and patients should consider traditional Chinese health-preserving exercises as one of the non-pharmacological treatment options.
