Feasibility and Reliability of Three Body Composition Measurement Methods in Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities:A Review and Commentary
Body composition provides vital information about the physical health and nutritional status of individuals.The availability of feasible and reliable body composition measurement methods is essential for accurately assessing the health status of individuals with intellectual disabilities and developing effective strategies for their healthcare management.This paper presents a comprehensive review of the existing literature on body composition in individuals with intellectual disabilities.Specifically,it examines the feasibility and reliability of three commonly used body composition measurement methods:body mass index(BMI),waist circumference,and skinfold thickness.The analysis also discusses potential limitations associated with these measurement methods.The aim of this study is to provide researchers and professionals with reliable guidance for selecting appropriate measurement methods when assessing body composition in individuals with intellectual disabilities.
