Study on the Development Status of Gross Motor Skills in Children Aged 3-6 Years
OBJECTIVE:This study aims to examine the current status of gross motor skills and sub-abilities development in children aged 3-6 years. It provides a theoretical basis and data support for assessing and monitoring the development of gross motor skills in children aged 3-6 years,as well as implementing targeted sports interventions.METHODS:A total of 506 healthy children aged 3-6 years, including 151 children aged 3-4 years,169 children aged 4-5 years, and 186 children aged 5-6 years, were selected as participants. The Test of Gross Motor Development-3(TGMD-3)was used to assess the gross motor skills development of the children. The characteristics of gross motor skills development at different age groups were compared, and the overall development level and sub-ability development level were analyzed.RESULTS:The test scores for gross motor skills in children aged 3-4 years,4-5 years, and 5-6 years were(40.36±1.92)points,(9.28±0.95)points,and(62.88±1.20)points,respectively.There were significant differences in gross motor skills indicators,as well as locomotor skills and object control skills indicators, among the three age groups(P<0.01).CONCLUSIONS:(1)The development of gross motor skills in children is significantly influenced by age characteristics.Gross motor skills of children aged 3-4 years are the least mature and unstable, with significant individual differences.Gross motor skills of children aged 4-5 years are relatively stable and balanced.Gross motor skills of children aged 5-6 years are the most developed and stable.(2)Locomotor skills show a steady increase in the age range of 3-6 years, while object control skills are in a sensitive period of development in children aged 5-6 years.
