The Application Effect of NMES on Upper Limb Disuse Muscular Atrophy after Stroke
OBJECTIVE:This study aimed to observe the impact of neuromuscular electrical stimulation(NMES)on upper limb disuse muscular atrophy in post-stroke patients.METHODS:Using literature research method, experimentation, and mathematical statistics,20 post-stroke patients with upper limb disuse muscular atrophy were selected from Baiyun District People's Hospital in Guiyang between January 2023 and January 2024.They were randomly divided into a control group and an experimental group, each comprising 10 patients. The control group received conventional rehabilitation treatment, while the experimental group received additional NMES treatment alongside conventional rehabilitation.Treatment efficacy was evaluated by measuring muscle circumference, utilizing the MMT scale, and the simplified Fugl-Meyer motor function assessment scale.Statistical analysis was performed on the experimental data.RESULTS:At the mid-term of treatment, there were no statistically significant differences in muscle circumference and MMT between the experimental and control groups(P>0.05);however,there was a statistically significant difference in the Fugl-Meyer scale comparison(P<0.01).At the end of the treatment, statistically significant differences in muscle circumference,MMT,and Fugl-Meyer scale comparison were observed between the experimental and control groups(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:NMES can improve muscle function and effectively treat symptoms of upper limb disuse muscular atrophy after stroke.
