Influence of Physical Exercise on the Quality of Life of the Elderly——An Empirical Study Based on CLASS
This empirical study, based on the 2016 China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey(CLASS)data, examines the impact of physical exercise on the quality of life among elderly individuals.Using baseline regression, instrumental variable methods, and quasi-experimental propensity score matching, the findings of this studyindicate the following:(ⅰ)Physical exercise significantly improves the quality of life score for elderly individuals by 0.123 standard deviations and reduces the likelihood of poor quality of life by 2.5 percentage points.(ⅱ)The robustness of the results is confirmed after addressing endogeneity issues through instrumental variable methods and quasi-experimental propensity score matching.(ⅲ)The influence of physical exercise on the quality of life among elderly individuals varies significantly across different age groups, educational levels, and income levels. In conclusion, physical exercise has a positive and significant predictive effect on the quality of life among elderly individuals with higher education and income, effectively reducing the probability of poor quality of life.
