Technical and Tactical Characteristics and Winning Factors of Ma Long,Chinese Men's Singles Table Tennis Player at the ITTF World Cup 2024
This study adopts literature research method,video observation,four-phase index evaluation,and mathematical statistics to analyze the technical and tactical application and winning factors of Ma Long at the International Table Tennis Federation(ITTF)World Cup 2024.The results reveal that:(i)The overall evaluation of Ma Long's scoring rates in the four phases is three good and one excellent,and the usage rates in each phase are balanced.Ma Long's technical and tactical offensive system is rich and unpredictable.He is adept at using technical and tactical variations to contain his opponents,thereby placing himself in a more proactive position to seek scoring opportunities.(ii)The evaluation of Ma Long's scoring rate in the serve-and-attack phase is good.His serves mainly consist of short serves to the opponent's forehand,followed by backhand defense/flipping or side-step pulling,supplemented by short serves to the opponent's forehand followed by chopping long or backhand long serves followed by backhand defense/flipping.The spin of the serves adopts different rotational strategies based on the opponent's racket-holding direction.(iii)The evaluation of Ma Long's scoring rate in the return-and-attack phase is excellent.His receiving techniques are diverse,mainly featuring short control on the table,supplemented by chopping long and backhand flicking.Compared to before,especially when playing against left-handed players,Ma Long has increased the use of more backhand flicking attacks.His fourth stroke is mainly backhand defense/flipping,supplemented by side-step pulling and forehand defense/quick block.(iv)Ma Long's scoring rates in the long rally phases I and Ⅱ are good.His rallies mainly combine backhand defense/flipping with forehand defense/quick block.The offensive and defensive transitions are rapid,and the side-step pulling poses a significant threat.
