Ma Dakang's Cognitive Semiotics proposes that symbols are the mode of relationship between human beings and the world,and absorbs the philosophical thoughts of Taoist so as to make up for the defects of Western semiotics and construct a new cognitive symbol theory with Chinese characteristics.Ma Dakang's Cognitive Semiotics mainly consists of three successive layers of activities,namely,modeling activities,signifying activities and cultural activities.Modeling activity is to establish the relationship model between human and the world,including behavioral modeling,linguistic modeling and symbolic modeling.The representational role of symbols is based on modeling.Symbolic activity is the activity of tension between two types of primordial symbols,behavioral language and verbal behavior,from which all other symbols are constructed.Cultural activity is the process of utilizing symbols to shape the inner and outer world of human beings,and literature and art are among the most complex and creative constructive activities.
