The rationality of world university rankings'guidance is an important issue in the field of higher education.Currently, world university rankings such as ARWU,THE,and QS play a significant role in guiding the development of higher education institutions. However, whether their evaluation criteria are scientific and rational still requires in-depth exploration.By employing the Proportional-Odds Cumulative Logit Model, this study quantitatively analyzes the evaluation indica-tors of the ARWU,THE,and QS rankings to explore their impact on universities'overall standings. The results show that indicators such as research achievements and academic reputation dominate the existing ranking systems and have the most significant impact on overall rankings. This leads universi-ties to focus excessively on research when striving to improve their rankings, while neglecting other im-portant dimensions such as teaching and social service. Therefore,it is necessary to construct a more scientific and comprehensive evaluation framework to promote the diversification and sustainability of higher education development.
