This paper presents relevant design calculations for the construction of a U-shaped shield prefabri-cated assembled concrete utility tunnel in Xiong'an New Area.The material ratio of cushion layer and side joint backfill material is determined through experiments.The side joint backfill uses a mixture of quick-setting liquid soil to achieve rapid backfill,ensuring the slope stability of the installed pipe sections,and also having a certain water-blocking effect.The determination of the total thrust of the U-shaped shield is key to the successful imple-mentation of the project.This paper fully considers the elastic-plastic material characteristics of the soil layer,uses finite element software to numerically simulate and analyze the cutting reaction of the under-excavated soil body at the bottom of a U-shaped shield machine,and accurately calculates the total thrust that the soil body can provide.This study provides references for similar future projects.
