In this paper,the distribution of the crescent-fracture at the bottom of a special-shaped pier of a cross-lake prestressed concrete box girder bridge was introduced and the external influencing factors were inves-tigated.The numerical analysis was carried out by using large finite element software Midas civil and FEA NX to analyze the crescent-stress at the bottom of the pier,and the causes of the crescent-fracture were discussed on this basis.In view of the structural stiffness weakening caused by the crescence cracks at the bottom of the pier,which affected the structural safety,a reinforcement method of steel shell combined with external prestressing was proposed after considering the reinforcement effect,economy,applicability and durability.The method was discussed in detail from the calculation analysis and construction points,and it was successfully applied to prac-tical projects.The good effect of the reinforcement method was verified by the real bridge inspection after rein-forcement,which could provide reference for the maintenance and reinforcement of similar structural bridges.
