The seismic design theory for underground structures has become increasingly mature, and four calculation methods have been proposed while the seismic design of underground storage tanks is still mainly based on the quasi-static method proposed by Code for seismic design of outdoor water supply, sewerage, gas and heating engineering. In this study,a case analysis of a stormwater retention basin project in Shenzhen was conducted, comparing the seismic stress calculation results of the quasi-static method and the response dis-placement method. It was found that as the seismic fortification intensity of the site increased, the discrepancy in seismic internal forces calculated by the two methods became larger. However, the ratio of the maximum bending moment of the pool wall remained stable between 1.30 and 1.50.This result is beneficial for simpli-fying the reinforcement design calculations of wall panels using the response displacement method. The appli-cable conditions for the response displacement method were proposed, which could provide a reference for similar designs.
