To Take a Breath Above the Thorns of the Rose——Poetry and Reality in Rilke and Celan's Rose Poems
Rilke and Celan, the two masters of modern poetry, tried to seek a breakthrough in the representation of reality in their poems facing their own language dilemmas.Under the influence of Rilke, many of Celan's poems have an intertextual relationship with Rilke's.Their rose poems are one of the typical examples, which present the tension between art and reality, poetry and history in differ-ent ways.Rilke's poems combine images to construct a timeless and closed aesthetic space, while Cel-an's poems construct a textual reality that carries historical memory and reactivates the possibility of poetry to reproduce reality.
