Comparative metabolomics analysis between two congeneric edible and medicinal plants,Polygonatum sibiricum Red.and Polygonatum odoratum(Mill.)Druce
Metabolomics methods were used to comparatively analyze the composition and differences of the metabolites between two congeneric edible and medicinal plants of Polygonatum sibiricum Red.and Polygonatum odoratum(Mill.)Druce.The roots of P.sibiricum and P.odoratum were analyzed by a non-targeted metabolomics technique based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry(UHPLC-MS).A total of 583 significantly different metabolites were detected from the two medicinal plants,of which 536 increased dramatically in P.odoratum compared to P.sibiricum, while 47 reduced considerably in P.odoratum.Among these metabolites, there were significant differences in 150 flavonoids between P.sibiricum and P.odoratum,of which 139 increased greatly and 11 significantly decreased.A total of 110 steroid saponins were detected in P.sibiricum and P.odoratum,of which 93 were significantly increased and 17 were significantly decreased.A total of 73 alkaloids were detected in P.sibiricum and P.odoratum,of which 61 were significantly in-creased and 12 were significantly decreased. There were significant differences between 98 terpenoids in P.sibiricum and P.odoratum,of which 96 were significantly increased while 2 were significantly decreased. There were significant differ-ences between 48 terpenoids in P.sibiricum and P.odoratum,of which 47 were significantly increased and only 1 was significantly decreased. These research results would provide some theoretical basis for the medical development and appli-cation of P.sibiricum and P.odoratum.
