The research on the Wei-Suo ancient cities is not only a retrospective record of the cit-ies'origins,but also basic work of the protection of historical sites.Haimen-Wei and its Suo-City are typical representatives of counter-Japanese ancient city in the Ming Dynasty.As a kind of military cas-tle,it emerged during the ban on sea in the early Ming Dynasty and withdrew from the stage of history in the early Qing Dynasty due to the Qian-Hai.In the rise and fall of the"city",the preservation sta-tus of these Wei-City and Suo-City varies.From the evaluation system of defense facilities(city walls,gates,moats,Ma-Mian)and street and alley textures(street layout,public buildings),the current Wei-Suo ancient cities include the fully preserved Taozhu-Suo,the clearly defined and textured Xinhe-Suo,Jiantiao-Suo only with city walls remaining,as well as Haimen-Wei and Qian-Suo with the dot-shaped re-mains.According to the different characteristics of the remains,corresponding preservation and utilization measures should be taken to enable them to convey authentic historical information to future generations.
