Effects of Ni Content on Tribological Properties of Cu-based Powder Metallurgy Materials
The influence of nickel on tribological properties of copper-based friction materials with various Ni additions fabricated by powder metallurgy technology was investigated. The friction and wear experiments were carried out on the MM-3000 friction and wear testing machine, and variation of friction materials with different nickel contents with braking speed were explored. The results indicate that nickel can enhance the hardness and strength of the material and refine the grain. Moreover, the wear loss is reduced and the friction coefficient is increased after nickel addition, which reaches 0.444 with the nickel content of 2%.During the process of high-speed friction, nickel forms a dense and uni-form oxide film on the surface of the material, improving the stability during friction.
