Effects of Microscopic Defects on Penetration Resistance of Ti/Al3Ti Composites
Ti/Al3Ti laminated composites with compact structure and excellent impact resistance were fabricated based on hot pressing rolling composite method, and the morphology as well as formation mechanism of defects including pores and cracks in the intermetallic compound Al3Ti layer were observed and analyzed.Combined with finite element techniques, effects of defects on penetration resistance of composites were thoroughly investigated. The process of pro-jectile penetrating composites was analyzed, and energy variation mechanism of each layer in composites during projec-tile impact process was revealed. The results indicate that defects can decline the stiffness and strength of Ti/Al3Ti laminated composites, thereby reducing penetration resistance.
