Effects of Cu,Mg and Ag Elements on Casting Properties of Al-Cu-Mn Alloy
Al-Cu alloy exhibits desirable mechanical properties and fracture toughness. However, poor casting proper-ties limit the application in complex castings.Effects of Cu,Mg and Ag elements on casting properties of Al-Cu-Mn alloys were investigated to improve the casting capacity of Al-Cu alloy. The results indicate that when the Cu content is increased from 5.5%to 6.5%,the flow sample length of the alloy is increased from 598 mm to 918 mm with reduc-tion of hot cracking tendency, and the hot crack ring width is decreased significantly from 20 mm to less than 15 mm.Single Ag addition can improve the fluidity of the alloy, which has little effect on hot cracking tendency. When Mg and Ag are compound added, the low melting point S-(Al2CuMg)phase is formed, enhancing the fluidity of alloy melt and reducing the resistance to hot cracking.
