Effects of Process Parameters on Forming Quality and Properties of 5356 Aluminum Alloy Fabricated by WAAM
Effects of process parameters on forming quality, microstructure and properties of WAAM 5356 aluminum alloy were investigated by surface waviness calculation, microstructure observation, hardness and tensile testing. The results reveal that excessive or insufficient deposition current, deposition velocity and interlayer temperature are all adverse to forming. As the deposition current is increased from 70 A to 100 A,the grain size and porosity of Al5356 are gradually increased, while the hardness is decreased. With deposition current of 85 A,the microstructure is homo-geneous with well interlayer fusion, indicating desirable comprehensive mechanical properties.A set of process param-eters suitable for depositing Al5356 thin-walled components was determined as follows:deposition current of 85 A,deposition velocity of 4 mm/s,interlayer temperature of 100~150℃.
