Effects of Two-stage Aging on the Precipitated Phases and Mechanical Properties of Mg-13Gd-5Y-0.6Mn-0.5Ca Extruded Magnesium Alloy
The effects of two-stage aging on the precipitated equilibrium phases and properties of Mg-13Gd-5Y-0.6Mn-0.5Ca extruded magnesium alloy were investigated. The results reveal that two-stage aging and single-stage aging can effectively improve the room temperature tensile properties of tested magnesium alloy, however the effects of two-stage aging is superior to that of single-stage aging, and elongation is increased from 1.8%to 2.5%.The mecha-nism for further improvement of the tested alloy by two-stage aging is characterized by promoting the aging precipita-tion of Mg5Gd equilibrium phase.
