The value of imaging examination in appendix related diseases to be diagnosed in gastroenterology department:a single-center study
Objective To explore the diagnostic value of imaging methods in appendix related diseases to be diag-nosed in gastroenterology department. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on the patients who were select-ed for ultrasound and CT examination for appendiceal-related diseases to be diagnosed in the Department of Gastroenter-ology,Xuzhou Central Hospital from Jan.2021 to Dec.2022.According to the final diagnosis conclusion of surgery, digestive endoscopy or enhanced imaging,119 patients were divided into appendix related diseases group(n=56),non-appendix related diseases group(n=52),and appendicitis combined with other diseases group(n=11).Results The detection rates of ultrasonography in 3 groups were 98.21%,92.31%and 72.73%,respectively.The detection rates of CT in 3 groups were 91.07%,76.92%and 81.82%,respectively.The difference in the detection rates of ultrasound and CT in non-appendix related diseases group was statistically significant(x2=4.727,P<0.05).Ultrasound was superior to CT in the presentation of subtle lesions and blood flow(appendiceal perforation, diverticulum, fine vascular lesions, and some critical illness-related diseases)and CT was superior to ultrasound in the presentation of high-density foreign bodies or lesions(date pit,stones/bezoars).Conclusion Imaging examination has high differential diagnosis value in appendix related diseases to be diagnosed in gastroenterology department, and the combined application is expected to realize low negative appendiceal operation rate.
