Effect of bowel cleaning assessment pictures in guiding the polyethylene glycol bowel preparation regimens
Objective To evaluate the effect of bowel cleaning pictures in guiding the polyethylene glycol bowel preparation regimens.Methods Patients who underwent painless colonoscopy in the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Center of our hospital from Feb.2023 to May 2023 were selected as the study objects.Among them,446 cases from Feb.to Mar.were served as control group,and 409 cases from Apr.to May were served as observation group.The control group was treated with 3 L polyethylene glycol oral regimen for bowel cleaning.The observation group was guided by the bowel cleaning assessment pictures according to different doses of polyethylene glycol.The effectiveness was evaluated by com-paration of the oral liquid volume,bowel cleanliness,colonoscopy duration,fecal water attraction,occurrence of adverse reactions,and retaking willingness between the two groups.Results The oral liquid volume of observation group and control group was(2 737.80±352.72)mL and(2 844.10±336.54)mL,respectively(P＜0.05).In the observation group,35.07％of patients had oral liquid volume less than 2 750 mL,19.90％of patients had oral liquid volume less than 2 250 mL,and the bowel preparation was qualified.There was no significant difference in BBPS scores.The exam-ination duration,total examination duration and the volume of fecal water in the observation group were less than those of the control group,and there were significant differences between the two groups(P＜0.05).In adverse reactions,8.31％(34/409)vomiting in observation group and 13.45％(60/446)in control group,respectively(P＜0.05).There was no difference in retaking willingness between the two groups,but the number of patients with discomfort in ob-servation group was significantly infrequently than in control group(P＜0.05).Conclusion Using bowel cleaning pic-tures to guide patients using polyethylene glycol may reduce the volume of oral liquid and colonoscopy operation time,as well as the incidence of adverse reactions,keeping the quality of bowel preparation.
