Advancements in the research of the pathogenic mechanisms of intestinal Beh?et's disease
Behçet's syndrome(BS)is a chronic, relapsing systemic vasculitis characterized by recurrent oral and genital ulcers.Intestinal Behçet's disease,a subtype of BS,is primarily marked by intestinal ulcerations. The clinical presentation of intestinal Behçet's disease can be diverse and may be complicated by severe conditions, thereby increas-ing mortality risk, economic burden, and significantly diminishing patients'quality of life.Although the pathogenesis of intestinal Behçet's disease is not fully understood, current research suggests a close association with genetic predisposi-tions,environmental factors, dysregulation of immune responses, and alterations in the gut microbiome.A deeper un-derstanding of these etiological factors is crucial for enhancing early diagnostic accuracy and developing more effective therapeutic interventions. While pathophysiological studies on BS are well-established,there is a relative paucity of liter-ature specifically addressing the intestinal Behçet's disease subtype. This article provided a comprehensive review of the advances in research concerning the genetic background, immunological mechanisms, environmental influences, and dysbiosis of the gut microbiota associated with intestinal Behçet's disease.
