The murals unearthed from the tomb of Dai Zhide and his wife of the Tang Dynasty can be divided into three categories. The first category consists of pingan-style condense squares ceiling murals imitating wooden structure with pomegranate-shaped baoxiang auspicious flowers, similar in style to the high-rank tombs and the ceiling murals of the Mogao Grottoes from the same period, possibly associated with the prevalent Buddhist worship at the time. The second category depicts rows of ji halberds, with a quantity of lining ji halberds surpassing what would be expected for their rank, possibly due to special honors of the deceased or other reasons. The third category portrays yizhang ceremonial guards, again exceeding the prescribed numbers, possibly for reasons similar to those of the halberd depictions,or reflecting a higher number of ceremonial guards during the reign of Emperor Gaozong compared to the regulations outlined in the Kaiyuan Code(Kaiyuan Li).
