The Chongren fang grid in the Tang-Dynasty Chang'an City was situated between the Three Great Palaces-Taiji Palace,Daming Palace,Xingqing Palace-and the Imperial City, diagonally opposite the East Market.During the early and prosperous Tang periods, aside from temples and monasteries, the distinctive location of the Chongren fang grid attracted many high-ranking officials and nobles to reside there. The establishment of the Lihui Yuan Bureau of Rites during the Kaiyuan era marked a shift in the spatial dynamics of the Chongren fang grid. From the middle to late Tang Dynasty, numerous Jizou Yuan official reception halls and inns emerged within the Chongren fang grid, fostering a flourishing commercial environment, including a night market that transcended the spatial and temporal constraints of the lifang grid system.During this period, while temples and monasteries continued to exist, the number of new mansions owned by high-ranking officials and nobles significantly decreased,no longer occupying a dominant position.
