This paper presents a study of the physical anthropology of a human skeleton of a Warring States Chu aristocrat in the Xinzhuang tomb no.1 in Yexian County,Pingdingshan City. The occupant of the Xinzhuang tomb no.1 was a female aged over 60,whose cranial morphology resembles that of female accompanying burials in the Zenghouyi tomb.A series of dental diseases suggest that the occupant's health was poor during childhood.Degenerative arthritis appearing only in the chest and neck indicates that the occupant did not engage in high-intensity activities that would have increased joint load during her lifetime. However, her head and neck were probably in a state of fatigue for extended periods.Clearly defined muscle attachment points and kneeling facets on the lower limb and finger bones suggest that the occupant frequently knelt for extended periods during her lifetime, possibly making playing the se,a type of Chinese plucked string instrument,a daily habit.
